PDM_Teeth-Whitening15BRIGHTEN YOUR SMILE WITH TEETH WHITENING!

When you want to improve the look of your smile, consider teeth whitening treatments with a restorative dentist in Westchester, CA. Dr. Glenn Sperbeck offers several options for patients who want to whiten their teeth in the fastest way possible. Some options for whitening your teeth include whitening toothpaste, over-the-counter gels, rinses, strips, and whitening trays. However, an in-office procedure will help to brighten and whiten your teeth in a single visit and can be a much more convenient and effective solution for most patients.
TRAY-BASED TOOTH WHITENERS

Part of the treatment plan recommended by your restorative dentist may be to use a tray-based tooth whitening system. These are custom-made trays similar to a mouthguard that are made right at Dr. Sperbeck’s office. The trays are filled with a whitening solution that contains a peroxide-bleaching agent. You will need to wear the trays for a couple of hours a day to every night for up to four weeks to get the results you want. The treatment length will vary depending on the amount of tooth discoloration and the desired level of whitening. This whitening procedure can be done at home and does not require additional appointments or procedures.

IN-OFFICE WHITENING

In-office whitening is the fastest way to whiten your teeth. This process requires at least one visit to our office, and you may want to come in for multiple visits to achieve your desired results. Each visit typically lasts between 30 to 60 minutes and involves applying a whitening agent directly to the teeth. This whitening agent is used in combination with a special light or laser which helps to speed up the whitening process. Most patients see dramatic results with in-office whitening right away!

AT-HOME WHITENING VERSUS DENTIST-SUPERVISED TEETH WHITENING

Even though there are many convenient teeth whitening products available at your local pharmacy, most will not offer the results you are trying to achieve. In order to see bright and white teeth quickly, you need to come in and see Dr. Sperbeck for an in-office teeth whitening procedure or tray-based whitening system. Here are some of the key differences between at-home whitening and dentist-supervised teeth whitening in Westchester, CA:

1. Strength of the bleaching agent. Over-the-counter and dentist-supervised at-home products typically contain a much lower strength bleaching agent. These products typically have only 10 to 22 percent carbamide peroxide, while the whitening products used at our offices contain between 15 to 43 percent carbamide peroxide.
2. Poorly-fitted mouthpiece trays. When you get a custom tooth whitening tray at our office, we will design it based off an impression of your mouth. These trays are made to fit your mouth exactly and ensure that the whitening gel has maximum contact to your teeth. However, over-the-counter tray whiteners only come in one size and will not fit your mouth properly. If the tray is too large or too small, it can cause gum and soft tissue irritation, and the whitening gels in the tray will not whiten your teeth evenly.
3. Safety. Some teeth whitening products can be very irritating to the gums and soft tissues. At-home whitening treatments are not necessarily designed to protect soft tissues from irritation. When you get your teeth whitened at our office, we apply protective gels to the gums and soft tissues, or use a rubber shield to protect your mouth from the effects of bleaching.
4. Custom treatment plan. When you visit our office for a teeth whitening treatment, Dr. Sperbeck will perform a complete oral exam to determine if teeth whitening is appropriate for you. He will recommend the best whitening treatment to fix teeth discoloration without damaging the teeth.
